Parents who are divorced or who were never married to each other and are separated are offered up to four hours of free mediation services with a trained mediator for the purpose of resolving disputes about parenting time, custody, child support, transportation responsibilities, health insurance coverage, and other issues related to their children. Additional free hours may be offered to parents under certain circumstances with prior approval from M.A.R.C.H. Because mediated agreements are not binding on the parents until approved by the court, M.A.R.C.H. will direct parents to resources to assist them in presenting their agreement for court approval. If a court order is desired and neither party is represented by an attorney, the summary of understanding will be forwarded to a M.A.R.C.H. contract attorney at no cost to the parents, other than any necessary court filing fee. The attorney will act as an impartial intermediary for the purpose of preparing the necessary court pleadings; filing those pleadings with a court; and, if a court appearance by the parents is necessary, appearing with the parents to obtain the approval of their agreement by the court. If court order is desired and a parent is represented by an attorney, M.A.R.C.H. will forward the Summary of Understanding to that attorney for entry of a court order.
