M.A.R.C.H. Director of Education and Training

MARCH Mediation is seeking a “Consultant for Region 1”
Contract Consultant position. 15-20 hours per week. $2,000 a month
Goal: triple service usage in Region 1 via outreach efforts
Region 1: Circuits 1,2,9,10,11,12,13,14,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,32,33,34,35,36,37,41,42,45

About Us
M.A.R.C.H. Mediation, a nonprofit mediation provider located in Liberty, MO invites applications for a Consultant. This position is focused on the increase in service usage in Region 1 of Missouri. However, it also includes some widely varied tasks that will incorporate program development, fundraising and public policy consensus building. As with most small non-profit organizations, additional tasks related to social media management, networking, and miscellaneous office responsibilities may also be expected.  

Position Description
Specific assignments will be primarily from the Essential Functions detailed below, based upon the education and expertise of the person holding this position. This position will report to the Executive Director of M.A.R.C.H.. The successful applicant must be comfortable working with and advocating for an organization that focuses on conflict resolution and access to justice. Additional information about M.A.R.C.H. The starting time for this position will be negotiated with the successful applicant, with a target date of March 1, 2022.

Ways to increase service usage: 
  • Recruit mediators, legal service providers and trainers for MARCH
  • Promotion on social media
  • Collaborate with courts state-wide, emphasis in Region 1 
  • Collaborate with child support offices
  • Meet with prospective mediators and contract attorneys
  • Assist Executive Director
  • Assist staff
  • Report to Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with other professionals (Bar Associations, HMA, mediation programs, AMM, MSU, KIPCOR, etc.)
  • Collaborate with social service agencies, emphasis on IV-D recipients
  • Collaborate with MARCH Committees on program and outreach development

Essential Functions
Specific tasks assigned to this position will be determined in part by the education and expertise of the person selected for this job. The following reflect essential functions or responsibilities from which primary job assignments would be made:
  • Support the mission of M.A.R.C.H. Mediation (Mediation Achieving Results for Children)
  • Provide primary leadership in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of all education and training courses, workshops, and programs offered by M.A.R.C.H. Mediation and also offered under the M.A.R.C.H. umbrella for state agencies, courts, schools, community organizations, health care organizations, and other groups
  • Serve as the primary liaison on education content and training issues between MARCH Mediation, Missouri Bar, and the Kansas Supreme Court Office of Judicial Administration
  • Serve as a liaison on mediation and access to justice issues between M.A.R.C.H. and the circuit courts in Missouri, with an emphasis on Region 1
  • Assist in other aspects of M.A.R.C.H. program and responsibilities as needed and determined by the supervisor
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to changing work processes, including moving from in-person to remote work and back
  • Satisfy the duties of a Mandated Reporter relating to the service contract with the state of Missouri
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position
  • Comply with M.A.R.C.H. Mediation policies and procedures
  • Supervisory Responsibility
  • Supervises trainers, contract instructors, new mediators and interns

Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum of a law degree is required
  • Three years experience as a mediator is required
  • Thorough knowledge of mediation and its applications
  • Thorough knowledge of limit scope representation and its applicability to IV-D cases

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Secure and maintain Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 and Rule 88 approval as a mediator
  • Maintain active membership in appropriate professional associations
  • Maintain active professional insurance

Skills Required
  • Excellent public presentation skills
  • Effective mediation of interpersonal conflicts
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple and sometimes competing tasks.
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills
  • Expertise and comfort in working with persons from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Basic budget management
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an office environment.
  • Efficient use of Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work from both home or personal office

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years of direct experience working as a third-party intervener in conflict management/resolution/transformation situations    
  • Expertise in using electronic and social media to communicate with supporters and to market services and programs
  • Expand an existing network with other mediators and facilitators, community and organizational leadership, courts, and business and governmental personnel

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Minimal lifting (up to 25 lbs.) and reaching
  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, and printer for extended periods of time
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one building location to another
  • Ascending and descending stairs
  • Ability to perform tasks both sitting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Ability to function well in a standard office setting
  • Medium/indoor work environment
